Hola from Yuma,
This week was super fun! One of our investigators,
Denice, (whose mom
got baptized in September) decided with her boyfriend
that they were
going to make it official and get married! She just had a
baby girl 3
weeks ago and they also have a 2 year old boy. We asked
when they were
going to do it, thinking a few months from now, and they
said "on
Saturday" so that took us by surprise. They asked us
4 missionaries to
sing at it, but at the last second, the other 2 hermanas
couldn't
come, so Hermana Lambert and I were going to have to sing
alone, which
if you remember what my singing voice sounds like,
wouldn't sound so
great. Fortunately, the wedding was super informal, with
just the
branch president performing the ceremony in the Relief
Society room
and a couple of family members there. Then afterward,
they had us be
the photographers, so this weekend, I was a wedding
singer and a
wedding photographer.
On Thursday, we had a lesson scheduled with Irma, who is
getting
baptized this Saturday. We went to her house, but she
wasn't home,
which is odd because she told us the day before that she
would be
there expecting us. We called her and said said that she
was on her
way to Mexico and wouldn't be returning until Monday
evening or
Tuesday. Her phone doesn't work in Mexico, so we haven't
had contact
with her for 5 days, which has been pretty scary given
that her
baptismal interview is on Wednesday. So we've been
praying for her a
lot and if you could be praying too, that would be great.
On
Wednesday, we went to Irma's new house with the other
sisters and
helped her paint and clean up her backyard.
Heidy is doing great! She's still super excited to get
baptized on the
19th. We taught her the Word of Wisdom this week, and
she's been
keeping it since that lesson! On Saturday, the Mireles
family (Heidy's
parents) invited us to have dinner with them at their
granddaughters
3rd birthday party. I was amazed at the difference
between this 3 year
old birthday party and the party I had for my 3rd
birthday. My 3rd
birthday party included a cake after dinner and opening a
couple of
presents from the siblings and parents, which was fully
appropriate
for a 3 year old birthday party. This party on Saturday
however, had
over 30 people there, a bounce house, "Frozen"
themed decorations, a
mountain of food, a piƱata almost as tall as me, and a
ginormous cake.
It wasn't like there were a bunch of 3 year olds running
around either,
but rather friends, family, and members from the branch.
It was super
fun and the Mireles family love any excuse to throw a
party...even if
it's to honor the 3rd birthday of a little girl.
Hope you all have a good week.
Love,
Hermana Gubler
